Nope. Thanks to M$ Outhouse, there is ANOTHER reason to LOOK at the topic tag when you are replying. The first reason, of course, is that the thread may have strayed from the original topic and the tag may need to be changed. 8o( Yes, the topic tag system is a pain and utterly terrible. It is, however, "8 times better than all the others" (points to anyone who knows who I am paraphrasing) My reply to this post changed the topic tag from "Re: [OT:]" to "RE: ]" hummm... I thought that the colon on the inside thing helped with this problem? I just did a test reply to an "[EE]:" post and it came out "RE: [EE]:" as it should. Time to go read the archive... ...yep, exactly the opposite was reported by several people. Humm... Well, Daniel Imfeld's solution is MUCH better anyway. Just do the command SET PICLIST SUBJECTHDR in the body of an email to LISTSERV@MITVMA.MIT.EDU and you get an extra [PICLIST] at the start of all subject lines. I expect that moves the colon far enough to the right that Outhouse doesn't mess with it. And before some one asks, yes the colon is required by the list server. Herb, Josh, isn't it true that we can set SUBJECTHDR as the default for new subscribers? --- James. -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU] On Behalf Of Joe McCauley Sent: 2004 Feb 27, Fri 01:08 To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [OT:] Outlook mangling topic tags? I just replied to a message on the list ([EE:] Release of magic smoke). Just before sending, I noticed that the topic in the subject line of the message I was sending had changed to 'RE: ] Release of magic smoke' - it lost the EE: tag. Has anyone came across this before? Any solution? (apart from changing my e-mail program) In view of recent controversies, I'd like to think that when replying to a properly tagged message, my reply would be automatically tagged properly............
