I really don't know what is normal, but I've seen ads for 1911-type pistols advertising fast lock times of 1.3 milliseconds as a selling point. So I'd guess normal would be on the order of 5 milliseconds or so. A poster earlier in the week indicated he'd read that 3 ms was normal and 1.5 ms was fast. You can spend over $100 in titanium hammers and firing pins, and stronger springs - all in reducing lock time. I know I have and I can really tell the difference - and NOT because I'm trying to rationalize my expense!! I'd borrowed a competitor's gun that had these magic parts and that's what convinced me to spend the money!
