I've personaly used Ritlabs "TheBat" for several years at home.  It dosen't
use the Windows address book so is considerably more impervious to the
various virii that try to send themselves to everybody.  It has an anti-spam
plugin and also has some very powerfull filtering abilities (you can even
run a mailing list with it). Although it's not free (35 euros to register
after the free trial) it's worth the money IMO http://www.ritlabs.com/

I also noticed that Mozilla have a separate mail client whilst I was
downloading their Firefox browser recently.  The email/usenet client is
called Thunderbird. I've not tried it, but if it's as good as the browser
it's definitely worthwhile having a look http://www.mozilla.org/products/
