Now high capacity NiMH battery prices are more in line with Nicad prices, I'm starting to use the NiMHs more. As for Li-Ion? Well, I don't feel like having a battery pack VWFing (Vent With Flame) anywhere near me. The electrolyte is highly flammable, so if the battery starts overheating, the whole thing goes up like a Roman Candle. At least NiMHs are graceful enough to wait before going "kaboom". Now, if only I could get my head round the Maxim MAX712 charge IC calculations. Then I need to get a fairly large P-channel MOSFET or a REALLY BIG PNP BJT for the output circuit. I've got a BD139 (TO126 package IIRC), which looks like it might not survive if I try and pull 750mA at 6V through it.
