Heh.  Good point.  Fact is, I threw that together in response to
someone's inquiry way, way back, and I don't remember exactly why
I did that.

That's the problem with writing "tutorial" code; people can draw
inferences from what you've written that have nothing to do with
the intent of the tutorial.

I should re-write the whole thing as some sort of small, but
functional, "real life" example.
