If you'd like an example of a complete, advanced, and feature-laden
environment then you might look at the development environment
provided by Olin. That can be found at  http://www.embedinc.com/pic

While an excellent example of where you might want to end up, it might
be a bit more than you were asking for.

For more simple examples, download the application maestro from Microchip.
It creates relocatable code for a number of different purposes.
Be warned, the code is sometimes buggy, but the mechanics of writing
relocatable code can be learned by reading the files.
