I don't know, but it was > wrong (smaller sized chip anyway). :-) If you used an ex-circuit programmer (ZIF socket type) it might have applied power to the wrong poins, or (worse) to the power/ground pins but reseversed. This is one of the (few) ways to kill a PIC.
