I have been planning to build a similar circuit for handling audio from a radio scanner. Is the NE570/571 still considered state of the art enough that new parts are being manufactured? Back when I was a service technician with our audio visual department, we used to see notations beside certain parts indicating that they were no longer recommended for new designs but were still available until stocks ran out. That often means two weeks before you need to replace one.:-) The other design I am thinking about would use a PIC like the 12F675 and a digital pot to adjust volume. This might be much harder to make work than the analog circuit.
