My understanding is that the RJ11 is the 6 pin shell, with 4 pins fitted.
RJ12 is 6 pin shell with 6 pins fitted.

However I am very open to correction on this.

Perhaps someone with definitive knowledge can provide a quick definitive
list of these RJ connectors.
