Interestingly enough, the FT8U232 seems to be easier to get outside the U= K, despite the fact FTDI are based in the UK. Their UK rep is fairly friendl= y, but IIRC they had a rather excessive postage fee - =A313 IIRC. I think =A3= 13 is a bit excessive unless the ICs are packed in gold-plated antistatic shippin= g tubes :) Anyway, I've just found a couple of USB-RS232 converters on Ebay - "Manhattan" branded, based on the Prolific PL-2303. Allegedly supported b= y Linux, too. =A313 all-inclusive for a USB-to-RS232 converter doesn't seem= too bad to me. Then again, I guess someone's probably going to post a message= to the PICList claiming to have bought a USB-RS232 cable for $5 or something like that ;) Later. --=20 Phil. | Acorn Risc PC600 Mk3, SA202, 64MB, 6= GB, philpem@dsl.pipex.com | ViewFinder, 10BaseT Ethernet, 2-slic= e, http://www.philpem.dsl.pipex.com/ | 48xCD, ARCINv6c IDE, SCSI Diagonally parked in a parallel universe. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
