Maybe not answering your question, but why not just
run a later (supported) Windows version. It seems *far*
easier.

And besides, from what I've heard on the news this morning,
the Windows source code (at least part of it) seems to belong
to the "public domain" now :-) :-)
Note that *I* do not think that is something good, by anyway...
