Some level of idiot-proofing is essential, but people have to take responsibility for what they do. Assume nothing about common sense The last case of this to hit me (and still makes me a little angry) was someone bypassing the 5V regulator and applying a full 12V to the PIC in the belief "it will go better". Still baffled as to why thinking 12V shoved up a perfectly operational circuit and s/w would improve functionality. Needless to say, performance was very quickly off the lower end of the curve. Clever boy took out some tracks as well. Still, my wallet thanked him.
