I'm not sure why you say that, 2.5 times better is a excellent improvement compared to the investment in a bit of vacuum formed plastic that costs a few cents to make. As I know I would be very happy with the return on investment if it were my product. Personaly, I think that although the supplier was obviously cutting corners, that you are being over cautious. Modern drives are far more robust than they were years ago when you had to be paranoid about handling them. The Samsung drives have a non-operational shock rating of 350G (and a relatively large 63G operating shock). Hard drives cannot be relied on to store critical data without backups anyway.
