The 16F88 is the > most expensive of the non-obsolete 18-pin 16F parts. 3 quick points: 1) The OP didn't specify the application. 2) The OP was using a 16F84 which is more costly than any other 18 pin PIC. 3) Even if you go smaller/cheaper in production, it's always a good idea to design to the part with all the resources, then figure out why actual part meets the final requirements.
