Regardless of how the drive was packed you have no way of knowing how it has been handled by the retailer. Given that even a good quality well handled HD can fail at any time you'd implement some sort of backup procedure wouldn't you. If you have such a procedure in place don't lose any sleep over the HD shipping. If you're going to lose sleep over anything, it's got to be heat. Let them get warm but not hot. If you really want to hurt the retailer that sold you the HD, write a letter to a popular computer magazine aimed at home / small buisness users.
