As things are never 100% I think I'll do that now: (partial) gift enconomies exist, today, and have existed for a long time. I can't be certain of the future, but they will probably exist too. I am not sure I am interested in discussing the economic consequences of OSS. I'd rather discuss the (economic and other) consequences of software monopolies.
