Hmmn, how about - Item 1: A brick resting on the door, on opening the brick obeys its natural downward tendancy impacting the thief who emits a sonic scream. Item 2: A logger (eg a dictaphone) inside the box, logs the scream for later identification based upon pitch (male/female/chorister) and intensity (well 'ard/wuss/management) - it has the sideline advantage of later identification by looking for signs of the impact of item 1 on the empoyees.
