Ideally the connector would be 20mm max. (diameter). The other restriction I'm running into is that I'd like it to come out to the side of the board, which means that the PCB part of it needs 90 degree contacts. Most circular connectors (AMP, Amphenol, Cannon, Conxall etc. all have fine connectors) have PCB versions with pins that come out straight on the back of the connector, rather than in a 90 degree angle. My ideal candidate would be a sealed 9pin DSub connector, or a 6pin version of the AMPSEAL series... But I haven't yet found anything. I'm sure I'm not the first one to create a CAN bus device for automotive use that doesn't sit in the interior of the car. Anybody around who did something similar?
