You may have fought of using two zener in reverse-series connection, but that wont work either. Remember that when zener is reversely polarised it will keep it's nominal voltage while in conduction. If I'm not wrong, diacs will short once they reach the conducting voltage. You could use a zener to trigger a thiristor.
