When I start a new > >project I try to clearly define: > > the nature of the problem > > the exact solution to the problem > > where the hard parts are > > where the easy parts are > I have just completed a project where I had only the result as a specification. I had no idea how to do it. I had to change processors twice, change the supporting electronics once, and completely rewrite once more for task scheduling. I certainly had no plans to write pre-emptive multitasking code for myself, but I ended up doing it. Thank God I could make it work with only three threads. My project is done. It works acording to spec ;-) And it only took me 10 months. If I had to say one thing about how I did it, it would be to never ignore an anomaly. If there is anything that doesn't work EXACTLY as you were expecting, you must spend as much time as it takes to completely understand what is going on until the function changes or your expectations change. Otherwise you end up building on sand. I won't say it worked the first time when I plugged it in - but it was close. So far I have only found one problem and it is immediately obvious which module it is in. This is nothing original, but I will repeat it: -Build your code in modules. -Be positive the module is actually working. -Build the next module. I'm not at all sure that my overall debugging time is lower than normal. But the problems were always in a very small box. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
