Glad you are up and running now.

As Olin said, there are advantages to upgrading MPLAB -- right now the
latest version is v6.41.
However, you can still leave your old v5.xx version on your machine and the
two MPLABs can coexist peacefully.

Regarding MPLAB v6.xx:

In fact, Microchip posted a method by which users can switch back and forth
between different version of MPLAB v6.xx -- I thought that was pretty
nifty. Not something you would normally do unless there's some regression
issues that need to be looked at.
