Hey guys, Sorry 'bout the OT post, but the relevant usenet newsgroups seem to be devoid of human life. Besides, I like and trust you guys more...! After watching a fair amount of NasaTV online over the past few weeks, I was flirting with the idea of a C-band dish set up. From there I started looking at what was available via satellite, and there seems to be quite a few free feeds out there. I noticed some of them are unencrypted Mpeg2 feeds, including some pretty cool sounding ones. The point of all this: by nature, I prefer to do it myself and save money, or even do it myself for the experience even if it costs more. I'm still learning all this stuff and enjoy learning by example. So, has anyone designed and built the necessary equipment to receive analog satellite signals? Mpeg2 signals? Other cool stuff I haven't mentioned? Is it even possible, or is all the necessary info held by the industry? Obviously, the Mpeg2 standard is not available freely (unless my information is out of date or wrong, which is highly possible) but maybe the unencrypted analog would be a plausible undertaking. Well, that's my little daydream at the moment and I thought I'd share it with the list to see what your thoughts were on it. -Tony -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics (like ads or off topics) for you.
