Coincidence or not, only an hour after I wrote this today I received a sample 16F767. Its deviceID reads as 0x0EA1. According to the programming specifications (ds30492a.pdf) and the errata (ds80177a.pdf) this is an 16F777!! But it really is 28 pins DIP....
