If you don't mind spending $25 plus shipping, getting programmable 8 I/O lines, and getting your feet wet with FTDI's (www.ftdichip.com) D2XX Drivers to implement bit bang mode, then check out: DLP-USB245M, or the DLP-USB232M at www.dlpdesign.com (They can also be ordered at www.mouser.com) The 'bit-bang mode' is not the raison d'etre of these devices, but it can come in very handy for general-purpose I/O.
