Is the code example in the application note a
*complete* application ? Does it have all includes
of the device specific include files ? And if so, do
they include the *correct* include file(s) ?

Does the App note say that the example
should be compilable as-is ("at first try") ?

Are you compiling using the target PIC that the
code example was written for ?

Just guessing...
