Hi, For my next project, I would like to send/recieve SMSes through a Nokia = 3310 or 5110/6110. I have found some excellent sites and it looks quite easy. What I need now is a phone ($30) and a cable.=20 Problem: All the designs I have seen on a cable is either a bought cable = ($$ and several feet long) or one built with an F84 and some RS-232 = interface chip to make communication with a PC serial directly possible. = This seems both expensive (well, not really) but above all unnessecary, = with a high count of component to first make the Nokia talk RS232, and = then to make the AVR talk RS232. Can't I just skip the double conversion = there? :) 1. Would it be hard to make a C program (GCC) to talk to the Nokia = directly?=20 2. Would it be possible to hardwire the pins of the AVR/PIC to the pins = on the Nokia? The Nokia is 3,3 volts, but if I run a capable AVR on the = same 3,3v feed? Of course, the logic levels are 0-0,8 and 2-2,8.. Hmm.. 3. Recommendations? (Buy a cable you cheap fool !? :) Thanks in advance, Magnus von Rosen, Sweden -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
