hi koen that's exactly what i started about 10 years ago. before I started to design a robot for about 1000 cd's, pioneer = presented it's first 100cd player. so I decided not to build the robot = myself and bought a 100cd player farm. as an intermediate solution, I also bought their controller, which was = able to control 3 of these players. so I could at least play about half = of my cd's, until my own controller was finished. unfortunately, the project never got an end, and some of the players = have never been used... when mp3 got available, I built a dos based mp3 jukebox, controlling = some scsi cd changers, and I copied my music cds to mp3 cds (reducing = the whole thing to 60 cds). the result wasn't very satisfying, as these cd changers have been very = slow when searching, and they often hung when they had problems to load = or read a cd. so then, when harddisks got cheaper, I copied the whole thing to a hd, = and the result is a win95 based mp3 server, which is so easy handle, = that anybody is able to use it... ...and the best of it: this thing has an Ethernet i/f, allowing me to have some more 'diskless' = players in other rooms, and anyone is able to listen to different music, = getting all data from the same harddisk. so I don't see a single reason to build a cd changer anymore. tino >-----Original Message----- >From: Koen van Leeuwen [mailto:koen@VANLEEUWEN.XS4ALL.NL] >Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2004 4:29 PM >To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU >Subject: [EE:] 400+ CD changer > >Hi all, > >I'm brainstorming for my next (hobby) project, an automatic = CDROM-changer >for >my entire CD collection, total ~450 CD/CDROM/DVDs.
