For years, I have supported the position that there was no such thing in consumer cells.  Well.. I was wrong.

I recently built a jig for testing battery charger systems under development, and having seen Sanyo's data sheet explaining about the memory effect, and for the first time, a specific set of conditions to bring it about, I couldn't resist.

I altered my battery test rig to produce the short discharge cycles, and there it is.
