You certainly can. The complexity depends on much of a file system you want to follow. If you want to create your own filesystem it's very easy. If you want some FAT16 compliance it gets a little harder. Have a look at my carmon project: http://repatch.dyndns.org:8383/pic_stuff/carmon While I interface to a compact flash card all the connections are 100% compatible with a harddrive. The firmware would need a few minor tweaks to get going with a hard drive, but the main meat is already there.
