Installed the micro (16C77/JW) backwards in the socket, powered it up. First thought was, "That's funny, they aren't supposed to glow like a flashlight" as I reached to shut off power (glowing bond wire). Tested chip, it was fine. Wrote "flashlighted" on the bottom. Two weeks later, started getting flakey results on some of the I/O pins. Spent a couple days looking for the "bugs" in my code. Then it hit me. "Flashlighted" hit the can and I've sworn off of ever trying to save a couple of dollars on a questionable chip.
