-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Can't program PIC with this system. I decided to make my PIC evaluation board http://www.jump.net/~vima/PIC/Controller/brd_control_working_cropped_10a.jpg compatible with the Olimex dongle programmer (JDM design) http://www.olimex.com/dev/pic-pg1.html and to recommend the Bonny Gijzen software http://www.ic-prog.com In testing everything, I can read an already programmed '877 part. I have a proving environment on a radio shack breadboard with just a 10E4pF cap, 1N4148 protection diode, 10K from gnd to RB3, and the 6 lines to the connector, so it is not an issue with my PCB. I made my own hardware+software programmer from a 68HC11 evaluation board and the PIC datasheets, so I feel able to troubleshoot many issues. The voltages appear to be stable (after the erase epoch) at 5 and 13V during the programming. The system programs erratically. I have tried various I/O delays under settings -> hardware and it does not become reliable. The '877 part begins programming 0xFF. The starting address for the transition is random, but in the very low memory range of 0x0010 to 0x0030. The '877A part only reads back 0x00 in all locations under all circumstances. I assume the '877 and '877A are pin compatible and did not modify the breadboard between them. This is all using the Windows API. I do have Settings -> options -> misc set up to use the NT / 2000 driver, and I do execute the program with administrator rights. When I choose the Direct I/O under settings -> hardware, the dongle doesn't appear to generate any output voltages. (Again, the hardware does work under the Windows API settings) The file ic-prog.sys is in the same directory as the ic-prog.exe. A key for it is visible in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\giveio Any ideas? Is there another commercially available programmer that uses this same ICSP connector? Is there alternate software that works with Win 2000 and this programmer? - -- Aubrey McIntosh, Ph.D. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use iQA/AwUBQAHhbgKlSw8yssF7EQK3WACgpaQjiDVUGuXM0KZdYJEXc89APdgAmQHW 5vIDHZX1wE82i0fXw6UQ/ogg =Keqo -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
