I brought this up a while ago, pointing out that with the
modern PICs like the 16f648, you could fit a whole stamp-1
equivalent on the PIC itself, probably without having to
do any tight coding...

There wasn't much interest.  With the advent if ICSP, ICD,
and reasonably priced compilers, and cheap programmers,
the barrier between would-be stamp users and would be
bare-PIC users is considerably lower than it used to be,
and anyone willing to deal with bare chips is already
too close to being over that barrier...
