When I needed to learn more about RS485/422 I went throught the 1st 20 pages
of hits on google, search "RS485" you will get LOADS of stuff.

A couple of places I can recommend are

www.bb-elec.com/  bb electronics

www.national.com national semi has some good tutorials/tech notes/app notes

www.rs485.com RE Smith schematics to look at and tech notes

www.maxim.com HEAPS of app notes, caution though using MAXIM parts in a
design for production

they are the best ones I can remember off hand,
