I second that reccomendation. The Square 1 books (http://www.sq-1.com) are great, and David is a genuinely nice guy. Plus, it's kinda cool to be able to call up the company and talk to the author! There are some that are huge fans of his code, but when used as a starting point, I think it's excellent.
