>Ebay has lots of them. Search "police siren". The >best ones are 100 watt Motorola drivers and horn. Actually the best ones are the pre-electronic ones which were the air raid type driven by a car starter motor. The N.Z. police used these when I was a boy, and I reckon they would beat any electronic one for volume. They used to use a head lamp foot operated dip switch to turn them on and off. I heard a funny story of a traffic officer who used the siren in the course of stopping a vehicle in a remote spot, only to find that he could not turn the siren off as the switch had gone faulty (not really surprising at those currents). By the time he had issued the ticket, and got back to the vehicle the siren had run the battery down so he could not start the car, or call on the radio. I suspect that the siren drew enough current to flatten the battery even with the car idling - this was before alternators, and I suspect even one of those would not have held the battery up. -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
