Are you refer to the code posted by Michail Evstafiev.
But I thinks that use a software SPI rather than hardware.

That will not be a problem. I plan to make a stand alone programmer for PIC.
I thinks a 4Mbit devices should be enough.

Well I have a tube of AT45DB041 5V devices, around 20+ pieces. I thinks it
is obsolete now. But the stock that I have should be OK as I only will use
it on my own tools or designs.
