Beyond Logic have an app note for the PBIUSBD11 used with as PIC 16F877 and
a code example in HiTec C. A good starting point.

The device seems to cost in thre $US3 to $US5 region if you can persuade
anyone to sell it to you in less than about 50 quantity. Future Active and
America 2 claim to have stock/ Digikey doesn't.
