I had a similar incident with the picbook.com device. It seems there is a pointer in the bootloader scheme that cannot be restored from Picstart Plus. I my case the fix was as simple as ordering a fresh pre-programmed 18F452 from the vendor. I corrupted the original exploring string constants with the c18 demo version. As is probably obvious, I still don't fully understand the problem. Perhaps someone will enter the thread and explain why I can't seem to just load a ew 18F52 myself...
