Hmn. That's bizarre. Are you saying that the 18F452 doesn't drive the display right, but the 16F877 can? Could that hex file have become corrupted? I find it hard to believe that one line would work and the other wouldn't if the display is okay. Oh well. $9 from Digikey, if that is truly the problem.
