The divisions are marked are by the horizontal and vertical lines on the
screen.

The 'scope does not sample. It is an analog device that works by using the
input voltage to deflect the electron beam directly.

The 10x mode simply means that the horizontal sweep is stretched out 10
times as wide, making everything 10 times wider on the screen.
