Have you tried another terminal program? I've had all kinds of troubles
with Hyperterminal over the years and quit using it altogether some
time ago.

There are some good free terminal programs out there that work much
better for embedded controller work, like TeraTerm Pro and Bray's
Terminal. Best of all, they're free for the download...
