I don't know about Thomas MacGhee's code, but my UART module QQQ_UART.ASPIC
at http://www.embedinc.com/pic does contain assembly time logic to
automatically configure itself for several types of UARTs.  Most of this
logic is actually in the UART_BAUD and UART_SETUP macros in STD.INS.ASPIC
found on the same web page.
