In a recent thread "[EE]: Protection against salt corrosion" I was
recommended silicone / dielectric grease to keep water off of
connector terminals. I passed this on to the customer, who got
some for a sea dive job (remember this was for an underwater
camera) last weekend. He reports total success, thanks to all.
If you're just trying to keep rain water/moisture out then probably
Vaseline would be OK, with silicone sealing for the cable entry
