No, but it made me even more confused about your opinion of the
software. Either it works OK, or it does not. In the latter case there
might be some accidental combination that gives you the result you want,
but that is just that, accidental.

It is also different (16F628 : requires a start programming command, -A
: no such command - for all I know
issuing the command will cancel the erase).

To you yes, but it would cost me a lot of time. If you are interested
(and don't want to search the piclist archive) you can find the sequence
in the firmware of my WISP and Wisp628 programmers (both available on
the web, one in assembler, the other in Jal). Or google for the
software/firmware of any other programmer.
