I am worried SASM has not been supported in any version of MPLAB. The
debugger used in the Picbook for 18F is not able to work together with
MPLAB. You have to assemble your hex file by SASM (or any other assembler
like MPASMWIN from Microchip) and debug your code using some terminal and
directives the debugger is able to understand. MPLAB communicates with its
debugger by the very different way.
