Well, a friend of mine has done that. He uses a special Permalloy "cone" to "concentrate" the magnetic field looking for distortions. He used a kmz10 or something. The unit was far 20 Mts. from the road. I suppose someone could put some info into a DSP to determine the car profile or if there was more than one car at the same time. Also may be used as complement to weapons detection! Don't you think?
