I use a cheap, easy to get, CD4016 or 4066. It has four switches that can be controlled by a logic level. Clean switching and ~50db cutoff. I use it to switch audio circuits in broadcast equipment. The 4016 can actually fade up or down. Will work on a single 5 volt supply. If anyone's interested, I can post a schematic. Actually, a j-fet will do the same thing.
