So far noone has mentioned Wouters (ICSP-only) Wisp628.
It might no be appropriate here, since the O.P. would
like to be able to program from within MPLAB...

But, since I use Olins environment, and has integrated it
all using UltraEdit (Olins processors, MPASM, MPLINK and XWisp)
using buttons on the UE toolbar, I never have had any problem
with that.

I'm sure you already have, but I'd still like to suggest to
stepp back and take a look at the environment as a whole.
I did, and I found leaving MPLAB gave me a more productive
environment as a whole.

Just a thought... :-)
