Unfortunately the current sco problem shows you what can happen, and in the us it seems that if someone with enough money thinks he owns your haircut, then it's a question of when, not whether, he owns it. The fact that you'd win the lawsuit after 5 years, 2 heart attacks, breaking up your family, making you unemployable and/or bankrupt and selling everything you own is irrelevant.
