How often are the plugged and unplugged? There are "weatherproof" permanent connectors that are filled with a silicone OIL gel (rather than anything that hardens like glue/caulk), and something like that might be useful in a connector as well, if it's not disconnected very often. Beware, though. I discovered the hard way that my easily-found thick silicone oil (copier "fuser oil") while nice and thick, was not at all thixotropic (ie I had some in a syringe, and after neglecting it for sometime in a opening-down position, ALL the oil had managed to flow out.
